A retrospective observational study analyzing the surgical outcomes of corrective treatments for atrioventricular septal defects (AVSDs) in pediatric patients. The study examined both partial and complete AVSDs, with focus on surgical mortality, complications, and patient demographics. Patients underwent corrective surgery with assessment of post-operative outcomes including intensive care unit stay duration and mortality rates. The study population showed high prevalence of Down syndrome (82.3%) and patent ductus arteriosus as associated cardiac pathology (61.9%). Age at diagnosis ranged from 2.9 to 7.4 months, indicating early surgical intervention. The majority of complete defects were classified as Rastelli type A (81.3%). Results were compared to international literature benchmarks to evaluate institutional performance.
Retrospective chart review of AVSD patients who underwent corrective surgery between March 2013 and March 2015. Data collection included patient demographics, type of defect (partial vs complete), associated cardiac anomalies, age at diagnosis, surgical outcomes, ICU stay duration, and mortality rates.
